Our Story

Christie started her hairstyling journey at Hot Heads, where Mike Insalaco taught her everything she needed to know. Christie's work was showcased on CTV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada, where she was a stylist to the contestants two season in a row. She has done hair for Toronto International Film Festival, as well as been top 5 in Canada for the prestige Contessa awards.

With all these accomplishments, she knew that there was more to her journey. The Strand started in a small room in the back of a salon in 2008. Christie was determined to start her dream of becoming a freelancing hairstylist and decided she no longer wanted to just rent a chair anymore. She bought her salon location in the Atrium Uptown Waterloo in 2010. She renovated it to make it her true vision of what a salon should look like. She now lives her dream of owning a salon where stylists share the same vision and mission as her.
